Real green products only come from a real green company. PBS is 100% responsible, from the inside out. Put your mouse on thee icons below to see how PBS is truly a leader in being green and environmentally responsible.

Responsibility is the future.
Go green, before you have to. Many states are now making energy efficiency law (California is requiring zero energy new construction within a few years), and new federal administrators are also adopting new federal energy requirements. Starting with California, being responsible in construction is no longer optional–stay ahead of the curve with PBS SIPs.
Green on so many levels.
Many environmental centers, demo houses and energy organizations know how valuable SIPs are to the green movement… which is why many of them have used PBS SIPs in their own projects. From environmental demonstration centers, to government agency environmental educational centers and actual energy wind farms, PBS SIPs have been used to save energy in construction for those who know energy efficiency best.
Green products CAN cost less.
The bottom line for SIPs over other construction methods are really comparable… even more so over a 5, 10 or 20 year period of 50-60% savings on heating and cooling bills. That’s thousands of dollars saved. When you think about improved indoor air quality and reduced airport pollutants from SIPs, you can also potentially consider a reduction in healthcare costs.
Construction waste reduction.
Because SIPs arrive to a jobsite precut and ready for install (much like a puzzle) there is approximately 30% less jobsite lumber waste as compared to traditional framing methods. This adds up big time–in fact, the amount of lumber waste nationwide is estimated by the EPA to be one billion board feet of salvageable structural lumber. Enough to build 62,000 average size new homes each year.
Full circle responsibility.
PBS’ mission is to deliver environmentally responsible products through an organization that implements this same responsibility throughout our organization. It’s not just the products we manufacture that are green… our people and our processes are also in the top echelon of responsibility.
Rapidly renewable resources.
The skins of our products are made from OSB (oriented strand board), a known and proven “rapidly renewable” wood resource where the trees that are used grow incredibly fast and are harvested only from crops planted for this specific use. Virtually all of the tree is used in production with little waste.
Responsible manufacturing.
Our OSB and lumber scrap is reused and or sent to wood recycling facilities. Foam scrap from the middle of our SIPs is also reground so that it can be reformed into new foam production. Our process creates very little waste for landfill. And our foam is produced from a physical reaction simply by adding heat and water rather than harsh chemicals like other insulations. Our products emit no HCFC’s or CFC’s and our mastics are available with zero VOC compounds.
Every location, every building.
Beyond manufacturing our offices and plants also recycle all of the waste possible (paper, aluminum, cardboard, etc.), we have a lights out rule to conserve energy, have switched lighting to more efficient fixtures and bulbs and have reduced heating and cooling costs. We believe being green is about much more than just recycling paper.
Transportation management.
PBS focuses on efficient use of fuel resources by contracting with common carriers who can plan for one-way (rather than round-trip) deliveries. This saves extensive amounts of fuel and money, and is the reason we purposely do not have our own fleet of transportation.
Indoor air quality: green = health.
The EPA says that 19% (or about 1 in every 5) of all American households have at least one member with asthma. They go on to say that four out of ten (40%) of children born in America today will develop some type of respiratory ailment. Why wouldn’t you look at SIPs for this reason alone? SIPs provide a home (or school, office, medical building) that dramatically improves indoor air quality, keeping harmful airborne pollutants out of your home, and keeping clean air in.
Environmental credentialing.
Very few products can help you achieve a large number of points like PBS SIPs can – up to 23 points per project on LEED alone. Regional green building programs recognize SIPs as one of the ultimate high performance building systems, energy star waived the blower door testing requirement for all SIPs construction, and the APA said that zero energy construction (and high environmental credentialing) is virtually impossible to gain without SIPs construction. |
